off to Entebbe!

I'm re-purposing this blog for my semester abroad in Uganda.I leave in two days (!) and just thought that I would introduce you all to my semester plans.

I'm spending a full semester (3 and a half months) in Uganda.  The program is based in the north, in Gulu, but we will travel around a lot, to see the capital Kampala and even journey into Rwanda for a few weeks.  The program's focus is Post Conflict Transformation- in addition to studying local culture and history, I will study the impact that the 20 year civil war led by Kony and the LRA had on the country, and how those affected by the conflict are moving on with their lives and rebuilding the country.  Since the violence in Uganda ended in 2006, much progress has been made.  This program is for American students studying abroad- I will not be enrolled at a local university, but I will be getting credit for my studies.  This way, the program can travel and teach its own curriculum.

I'll be updating this blog about weekly (hopefully).  I'm starting to get excited, and overwhelmed about all the packing I have to do!
